Perception

I have to remind myself often that people will hear and understand things from their level of perspective, or from their level of growth.

I came across an incident with someone that I did not really take as negative, or I did not perceive it as a mean gesture.  Not sure if I just felt the pain and sadness behind the comments or if I am just naive.  I commented out of love and I believe it was meant that way, but before I knew it I was unfriended.  No, I am not upset.  I guess I am sad for the friend that it involved.

One important thing to remember is that people's reactions rarely have anything to do with you.  If people get angry with comments and very quickly react negatively without any discussion, questions or explanation, they most likely are not ready to dig deep and figure out why that struck a nerve.  People can be so angry, unhappy or resentful because of their life situations that they cannot notice that the choice for change is theirs and it's not someone else's fault.

Yes, I do understand.  I have been there.  Several years back I was extremely unhappy and the easiest thing to do was to blame someone else for my situation.  Sure, that is way easier than doing the growing needed to realize that we are the only ones truly in charge of our lives.  Yes, situations happen that we can't control, but we CAN control our reactions to them.  In order to do that, we need to look at ourselves and understand why the pain is there, and yes it’s hard. As Eckhart Tolle says: "Accept- the act. Whatever the present moment contains, accept it as if you had chosen it.  Always work with it, not against it." And it’s true that doing that will change your life.

When I started studying and learning what is in my heart and in my soul, and begun my personal growth, I realized that we are in charge of our own lives.  We attract the energy we put out into the world.  We need to dig deep to understand ourselves and not blame others.  And, we have to be ready for the consequences when we do that, since those that no longer match our level of growth, our frequency, will probably no longer be part of our lives.

All this is hard work.  If it was easy, everyone would do it, right?  All I can say is that the work is totally worth it.

It takes work…

It takes work to have the life you were meant to have. Working hard at a job and making lots of money is not what I am talking about. I’m talking about the work to unlearn a lifetime of belief systems. The work to learn about yourself, the real you. To watch your thoughts, your emotions, behavior, and dig deep to figure them out.
One of the simplest things I think people can do to start is meditate. Most say that they tried it and can’t do it because their mind is too busy. I believe that is exactly the reason why you should do it! The more you do it the better you will be at it (that’s why they call it a practice!). There are several places you can find guided meditations with music that will give you mantras to repeat (like on YouTube).  I personally started meditating with the Deepak Chopra & Oprah 21 day Meditation Experience (new ones are available for free a few times a year, as of today you can still access day 8 of the latest one). I found them extremely helpful and easy to follow. The purpose of meditation is not to completely clear your mind, but as you have thoughts surface just let them be and pass through. It can be as simple as focusing on your breath!
Give yourself a month of meditating and see what happens. You may be surprised at the change in you!  I bet you will like the change!

Learning Compassion

Is it impossible to change our minds? I know personally I used to think quite differently about several things, until I learned to see things from another perspective. When you are able to put yourself in someone else’s shoes, you realize that things are not as simplistic or black & white as people have made them out to be.
What does it take to make people notice what is really going on? When there’s frustration and you notice that no one is listening and everyone has their head buried in their thoughts or belief systems, how do you get attention on your plight? Your suffering and the suffering of others? That is one reason people protest. To get attention to their plight.
I guess I would love to know if there’s a way to help someone find compassion inside themselves. To really feel what someone else is feeling. If people could truly feel the suffering of others this world would be a much different place.
I guess some of my big changes in perspective came when I started painting. I often say that I don’t know if painting led to my personal growth, or if my growth led me to my painting. I feel that the act of painting, for me, is meditative. I reach a space where the energy of feelings and emotions come through on to the canvas. I have also had collectors tell me that my paintings are more about feeling and energy than anything else. They get it, and that makes me grateful for my gift. I hope my paintings touch people enough to awaken them and start to see things differently as well.

Do you believe in Magic?

Not the hocus-pocus-pull-a-rabbit-out-of-a-hat kind of magic, but the ‘real magic’!

Have you ever had amazing ‘coincidences’ when you are involved in doing something you absolutely love & have a passion for?

I have always known I was going to be an artist, since I was a little kid.  Just waited around till things were going to be ‘perfect’ so I could start working at it.  Well, eventually I got tired of waiting and with encouragement I started ‘doing’.  I decided to ‘be’ an artist about 17 years ago, but I would say the last 7 years I have been truly serious about it.  I do go through ups and downs in my creating periods, but I know how to make my magic happen.

I noticed that when I go through periods of not painting much, work would not sell, or there did not seem to be interest in my work.  When I paint, or spend a lot of time at the studio, magically interest in my work comes out of nowhere! I will have people I don’t know contact me to buy artwork (once someone found one of my business cards in a parking lot, picked it up and ended up buying 2 paintings!), I will get invited to do shows I have not submitted to, or get contacted by a tv station to do a story on my work.  Coincidence??? I think it’s magic!

I believe when we are truly aligned with our life purpose, with our truth, the universe helps us by placing magic in our path.

Try it out!!!  Pay attention to the little awesome coincidences that happen as you are loving life.  Yep, that’s Magic!!

Blog Post 12.15.12 (I want Peace…)

I am done with giving my energy to all the negative horrible news, bombarding me non-stop.  I have had so many thoughts running through my head, so I thought I would put them down in a post to share.  Some will agree with what I say, some will not.  But I thought I would get this off my chest and move on.

The last year or so I have been on a search.  You could call it a search for myself or a search for inner peace or a search for happiness.  Some will probably say I am in a “dream world”, or I am naive, but if you just allow yourself to open your mind you may see a different point of view.

Peace, we all say we want it.  But how do we exactly achieve it?  I do believe that we will never achieve it with violence (of any kind).  I believe that if we truly cared about others, their happiness, their well-being, we would eventually have peace.  We have to get out of our “what’s in it for me” mentality, well-being for everyone will only make things better for everyone (this includes healthcare, both physical & mental).  I think peace is contagious and it spreads.  Peace cannot be forced on someone.  It has to be shown by example.  ANYTHING negative or violent will NEVER achieve peace.

Guns = negativity = destruction.  There is nothing positive that would ever come from them.  You may try to rationalize it but the bottom line is all they do is destroy, that IS their function.  You can say protecting yourself is positive, but if your mentality is about protection, you are not thinking peace and it’s a negative thought.

People are not born wanting to hurt others.  That is put into people’s minds.  Everyday there is violence and negative energy on the news, on tv shows, on the roads and people’s attitudes.  Have you ever tried to say something nice or help someone that was angry toward you or meant harm? Maybe you should try it and you may be surprised!  I do believe everyone wants to be loved, it’s human nature, and a lot of people have never been given that.

Ok, I have expressed my opinion.  I will now stop commenting, “liking”, re-tweeting posts related to the horrible event from yesterday.  I will stick to my usual positive thoughts.  You may comment or share this post.  I will not comment on positive or negative thoughts, all my thoughts are above.  I will approve comments as long as they are constructive whether positive or negative.

Thank you for listening.

Peace…
